  • 2. It would be helpful to 'print the test' to fill out as you read the course.

  • 3. After reading the course, click on the link to 'Take Test'

  • 4. If you have not already registered and logged in you will be prompted to do so.

  • 5. After passing the test, fill out the Course Evaluation, choose the method of payment then click submit (We accept PayPal, most major credit cards and eChecks). You will then be taken to the payment page.

  • 6. After submitting payment, you will be able to print your certificate of completion on your member account page.

Test results of courses passed, receipts, and certificates of CE credit, are kept on your member account page for you to retrieve as needed.

Board and Agency Approvals

In short, this course is accepted by the BBS and meets the BBS regulations requiring registrants to take 3 hours of continuing education coursework in California law and ethics during each renewal period in order to be eligible to renew their registration.

The California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) accepts course from providers approved by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC).

CE Course Description

This course is specifically intended to meet the BBS regulations requiring registrants to take 3 hours of continuing education coursework in California law and ethics during each renewal period in order to be eligible to renew their registration.

Laws and ethics permeate all services licensed professionals offer. They give the consumer protection and a set of expectations in the services they receive. They concurrently provide a road map for the professional healthcare practitioner. This course is designed to reinforce the legal and ethical responsibilities of the professional healthcare practitioner.
This course is an online, non-interactive, reading based, self-paced, and asynchronous course.

CE COURSE OBJECTIVES


At the end of the course, the participants will be able to:
  • 1. Discuss current laws and ethics in practicing general counseling principles.

  • 2. Discuss the complexities of ethical dilemmas and apply a framework for dealing with these complexities.

  • 3. Establish and maintain appropriate boundaries.

  • 4. Maintain self-awareness and manage transference and counter-transference issues.

  • 5. Apply the laws and ethics regarding reporting requirements, i.e. child abuse, elderly abuse, plan to harm self or others, Tarasoff etc.

  • 6. Discuss HIPPAA regulations and how to apply them in practice.
